Main aims: To provide suitable studio and creative space for local artists as cheaply as possible and to take art into the local community.
About:
Two members originally moved into Lion Works from space on Mowbray Street in late 2010, and since then we’ve expanded into the old rehabilitation school – the divisions of space was ideal. There are 13 of us now, all working in very different ways and mediums, but with the common goal of sharing art with the community.
What do you like most about the area: The fact that artists can find cheap studio space, and that the community is a feel mix of industrial and creative.
How would people get involved: Any way they can – we’ll be opening a gallery in March with exhibitions from May, our doors are always open and we’ll soon be opening up our studios to the public for those curious.
How long have you been doing work in the area: 18 months
Organisation’s type: Co-operative
